As far as software , spend more time do research , find free or cheap on the net , and if you have some money laying around , donate has much as possible to the source of good software. Next time at the store I mentioned it , of course it was just a clerk , so they shrugged there shoulders and mumbled. I got Commander off the internet , worked great right off. That's my experience, anyway, and I don't consider myself an expert. CAC, You have to be doing something wrong, or the copy you got was junk. It would seem that it would be much easier to program the rig with that than punching buttons and spinning the dial a zillion times.

One thing you will want to do is check their website for any updates. Yours will programmin more complete control over your radio than what my HT software can so I can just imagine the fun you will have with it.

Thanks for the link. Tweak the memories all you want, but touch nothing else - change the radio's options using the radio.
I got Commander off the internetworked great right off. Another lesson for a new hamsoftwade not be an appliance driverbuild it.

It works very well and only costs a few bucks: N9DMEJun 4, On the down-side, it can be very finicky, and sometimes it takes MANY attempts at sending before my HT finally accepts the entire block of data. I can sum it up in five words, though: I haven't had to program from the front panel of the radio yet which I consider to programminv a blessing. It will now be a pleasure to reprogram those memories and all the data associated sotfware them.
It works just fine, as the OP found out 5 years ago.
Ham Deluxe is one of the great examples. They mass produce their software discs and you may or may not end up with the latest version even though you are buying it new.
